Advice

Young friend take heed and listen,

For half a minute more,

I tell you something now, perhaps,

You have not heard before.

When you have wandered far away

From good advice and home,

Keep steady on the line of march

Wherever you may roam.

Hold high your head in every storm,

For winds can blow adverse,

Keep going on the steepest hill

There is danger in reverse,

The hilltop looms before you

Through grey and twirling mist,

It holds for you a future

With many a lure and twist.

Far out you meet with many men

And women bad and good,

Remember well the price of sin,

Speak only when you should,

Confide, but only to the few

That little you can tell,

Everyone has something still

They cannot speak to all.

Turn over to your place of birth,

In trouble, strife and fear,

Seek ye the blessing of The Lord,

For home and kindred dear,

All good is born in honesty

Be upright, straight and true,

In all things give a fair return,

Then all shall give to you.
