County Sligo Golf Club has scooped a prestigious national award, confirming its position as the top club in the country.
The club has become the first winner of the AIB All Ireland Golf Club of the Year for its all round performance, particularly in the area of communications. It also scored very well in the other categories in the competition, junior golf, the environment and clubhouse and course presentation.
The award, and development grants totalling 7,500, were presented to the club at a function in the AIB Bankcentre, Dublin, on Thursday last.
In the words of the judging panel, Co. Sligo took the top award for its all round performance across all four categories.
"While the club won provincial and All Ireland category awards for its superb communications programme, it demonstrated a major commitment to excellence across all of the areas being judged. In our estimation, the future of Irish golf is in good hands as long as there are clubs like County Sligo", said the judges.
Enniscrone Golf Club took the provincial award for clubhouse and course presentation.
