Message: Gaday Cobbers, The seagull and I have arrived at Dublin Airport after our annual holiday down under. We're looking forward to getting back to Rosses Point. I have a suite at the North Star Hotel and the seagull is perched on the roof outside. We tried to visit Declan Foley in Melbourne, but we were told he was dead to the world. I called Kieran Devaney when I got to Dublin but there was no reply. The seagull tells me he has moved from Lucan and is living on Blossom Hill. There are some nice people in the North Star. They tell me they are a choir from Romania and know a man called John Ryan. They were going to sing in Sligo until Austie called them. But then, that's another story. I assume the Bishop and the Mayor will be on the platform at Sligo Station to welcome me back to my winter residence. Yours truly, The Metal Man Co: The Haughey Suite, North Star Hotel, Dublin.

In fact we have played golf with Ciaran and Kieran at the Point. Who is this imposter? I think he is a Roomanian choirboy in disguise seeking a place in the Rosses Point buoys choir. And Imagine me speaking about Chralie in that way, We all know Charlie wouldn't be seen dead in The North Star now, as for the City Morgue next door, well that is another thing. I invite you all to be my guest in Austie's tonight! Slan MM and SG

I heard on the medical grapevine he has obtained a new glass eye on the National Health. That is why he has been so quiet! Then they took pity and gave him a facelift. This has made him look so young, his wife is now mistaken for his mother, and she gets the childrens allowance for him every week from the Australian government! And, too cap it all there are rumours he is getting a Knighthood from the Queen of Australia in the New Year's Honours list. I could cry! Seamus at the E A FitzPatrick home for the bewildered.

Message: What's going on? I am the real Metal Man. The Seagull stayed with the Romanians at the North Star and I caught the train by myself. There was no reception committee on the platform at Sligo Station and I had to walk all the way to Connolly's before I got a lift. Harry Ewing brought me out to the Point in the back of his truck. He's a decent man. I swam the rest of the way back to my rock. Things have changed since I've been away, there are more horses on Oyster Island and a China woman is living in Kate's Cottage and drinking in Mary Hackett's. I'm told she has a catwhich was given to her by Louise at the Elsinore. at closing time. It fell off the roof, rather like Kieran Devaney. Michael Leyden has gone to New Orleans to ask a doctor if he can drink again, and there are strange trees growing on Coney Island with lights on top. The lifeboat has got bigger, a bit like the Seagull's mouth. Jimmy Bruen is coming back this weekend. Perhaps he will bring me out a drink?

Message: How can I stop the water running into my room from around the MetlaMan. I phoned the North Star Hotel and they told me that the Seagull hired Foley's brother's limousine to take him home to Sligo. It seems that he and MetalMan fell out about buying a drink for the Romanian choir. MM wanted to use the credit card that CJ had given him. SG implied that would be urinating on the graves at Arbour Hill. MM's reply was 'Well haven't we been doing that for many years already!' The resulting fight scene was far better than that between John Wayne and Victor Mac Laglen in The Quiet Man. And that's why MM went home on the train. Rosaleen O'Grady (the Mayor) good woman that she is was manning the picket line in the nurses strike! She can't be in two places at once!
